Mike Lukich - Voice / Guitar / Casiotone
Christopher G Leather - Drums / Percussion / Tape
Forged in 2008 and rising from the ashes of bands and drum kits past, HØLAS is a musical collaboration between two mysterious gentlemen who…actually, they’re not so mysterious. They may assemble in underground bunkers far below the backyard greenery and tar-steaming asphalt of Northwest Indiana, but they’re of the people! Salt of the earth? HØLAS is sea salt of the earth.
HØLAS consists of Mike Lukich and Chris Leather. They play instruments. In fact, the boys have no problem playing Casiotone keyboards purchased at garage sales for one dollar. They savor the flavor of the basement show. They’ll quickly conceptualize ambitious plans to record a triple LP in one night—packaged in gatefold sleeves made of 100% post-consumer copies of Moby-Dick paperbacks—and abandon those plans just as quickly.
If you tell Mike he sounds like a worn-out cassette of your sister singing Christmas songs while someone is vacuuming in the background and the cassette is playing on a boom box your mom bought for you at Venture in 1989 just as the batteries are about to die, he’ll flash you a silent smile. If you tell Chris his drums sound like torpedoes being fired rhythmically from a submarine at the bottom of Lake Michigan and/or Led Zeppelin records played on loudspeakers in the middle of some remote wooded area in upstate New York at night, he’ll buy you a beer.
Guitar and drums. Thunder and lightning. Vocal cords and power cords and power chords. Electromagnetic rock’n’roll. Staunch believers in the happy accident. Ghosts in machines and unlicensed nuclear accelerators. Tag team champions of the science experiment gone wonderfully wrong. HØLAS will mow your lawn and save everyone you know from this sinking, fiery battleship known as the present.
HØLAS have one record out called winter. 7 tracks. Inspired by the cold season.
